Crawl Space Encapsulation
Crawl spaces are susceptible to moisture problems, and ongoing or long-term moisture problems can cause a host of problems for homeowners. Mold, rodents, insects, and other pests are common in crawl spaces with elevated moisture levels, and permanent structural damage is also possible.
Water can enter a crawl space from a number of sources. Bulk or standing water in the crawl space is often the result of a plumbing issue, flooding, or poor drainage. Water can also seep into the crawlspace from the surrounding earth. And because your crawl space is typically cooler than the outside area, warm air entering the crawl space can lead to condensation.
What is Crawl Space Encapsulation?
Crawl space encapsulation creates a moisture barrier between your crawl space and the earth to keep water out. A durable liner is used to cover the walls and floor of your crawl space. If your crawl space is prone to flooding, a sump pump system may be installed to remove the standing water when flooding occurs. Lastly, if humidity is an issue, a dehumidifier may be installed to effectively manage humidity and condensation in the crawl space.
Before the crawl space can be encapsulated, any existing water and mold growth will need to be removed and the crawl space dried.
